Y Market Decorian is a 7% fruited stout from Y Market Brewing, based in Nagoya, in Aichi, Japan. It’s part of their all-year round draft lineup, though whether it will be released in cans is unknown at the time of writing. It is brewed with imported US Amarillo, Chinook, Citra, and Simcoe hops and also contains dekopon, a hybrid between Kiyomi and ponkan (Nakano no.3), developed in Japan in 1972.

Y Market Decorian Aroma and Taste

Y Market Decorian came up a pitch black colour with a large frothy white head on top, full of bubbles and life, though it did collapse on itself. The beer had a distinct chocolate orange aroma, but not as potent as say Sankt Gallen Orange Chocolate Stout. There was also some coffee-like aroma to the beer, along with some hints of roasted black malt too. Y Market Decorian’s aromas were, on the whole, well balanced.

The problem I had with Y Market Decorian was in the body. For such a mixed body of flavours, there wasn’t enough body to hold everything together, and Y Market Decorian ended up tasting like a fruited schwarz beer. Not a bad thing if you like that kind of beer with a concoction of flavours. The orange intermingled with the light roasted malts and coffee flavours but lacked a sustaining overall flavour. The aftertaste was a disappointing fleeting orange and black malt flavour.

Y Market Decorian The Bottom Line

Y Market Decorian promised so much but in the end, delivered so little. A shame.
