Kamikatz IPA by Rise & Win Brewing Company

Kamikatz IPA is a 6% American IPA from Rise & Win Brewing Company, based in Tokushima, Japan. It’s part of their all year round range of beers, and can be found in both bottles and on tap across Japan. It’s brewed using a combination of four different hops imported from New Zealand and The USA; however, it’s unknown at the time of writing which hops are used.

Kamikatz IPA Aroma and Taste

Kamikatz IPA poured out a clear light yellow colour with a large frothy white head, which collapsed quickly to a mere couple of fingers worth of beer. The nose reminded me of some lemony washing up liquid – not the most pleasant of aromas to be honest. There was some hint of orange going on but Kamikatz IPA just smelt like it had been muddled up.

The body brought an initial twang of bitterness to it that was a welcome distraction from the soapiness of the lemons. Kamikatz IPA was quite rough to drink, and that wasn’t from the bitterness. It just didn’t sit right on the palate for an American IPA and I’m laying the blame firmly at the soapiness of it all. I had bought two bottles of this and both ended up tasting the same, so either it’s planned flavour profile or there had been some issues with bottling.

Kamikatz IPA The Bottom Line

At almost ¥700 per bottle, Kamikatz IPA isn’t worth it. Give it a wide miss unless someone buys it for you.

I am guessing it’s probably because how it’s bottled/stored/transported
I had their New England Style IPA (Morning Summer), loved every drop of it. 700 yen for a beer? I don’t know. I was so used paying much more in Seoul for so-so craft beers that I find Japan somewhat reasonable.
