Sankt Gallen Mango IPA is a 6% fruit beer from Sankt Gallen, based in Kanagawa, Japan. It’s part of their draft only range and was first released in April 2018 for the opening of Bakery & Beer Butchers in Atsugi. It uses the Sankt Gallen Golden Ale as a base, with 1.3 times the amount of malt and 6.75 times the amount of hops that usually go into making that beer, and also freshly peeled mango too. There is also oats in Sankt Gallen Mango IPA too.

Sankt Gallen Mango IPA Aroma and Taste

Sankt Gallen Mango IPA poured out a hazy orange colour with a frothy white head on top. The body looked like, and I dread to write it, a NE IPA – and my body wanted to hand it back. But no! I must drink it for BeerTengoku. It had large mango aroma of course, but there were also hints of lemon and some wheat with oats coming along too as well. It relied a bit too much on the mango aromas and as such, the hops went lacking as Sankt Gallen Mango IPA warmed up.

But the body! Wow! A nice mango juice punch with hints of bitterness from the hops. The bitterness wasn’t too strong, with the sweetness from the mango balancing out nicely against it. Sankt Gallen Mango IPA had a smooth, creamy texture to it as well and was perfect for the 27c weather at the Yokohama Fruhlings Festival. It finished with a lingering mango sweetness with that underlying bitterness just creeping in too.

Sankt Gallen Mango IPA The Bottom Line

I liked Sankt Gallen Mango IPA so much that I got another rather than another Korbinian – that should say it all.
