Karuizawa Kogen Brown Ale is a 5% brown ale from Yo-Ho Brewing, based in Nagano, Japan. It’s part of their autumn seasonal lineup and can be found in both cans and on tap at the Yona Yona Beer Works bars. Karuizawa Kogen Brown Ale is brewed with six different kinds of malts as well as containing oats too. It’s unknown what hops go into Karuizawa Kogen Brown Ale though.

Karuizawa Kogen Brown Ale Aroma and Taste

Karuizawa Kogen Brown Ale poured out a hazelnut brown colour with a slightly off white colour. The head didn’t last long mind until fading away fast to a thin ring around the edge of the glass. There was a slight nutty aroma to the beer, along with a undertone of caramel to it. There was a bare minimal hop aroma to it with a subtle lemon edge to it that was faint to say the least.

The body was more of the same with a nutty caramel flavour to it that didn’t really deviate during drinking. There was a faint bitterness to it that also had a lingering lemon flavour to it, but nothing pronounced to it. Karuizawa Kogen Brown Ale finished off with a lingering sweet malt bite to it.
