Nagisa Golden Ale by Nagisa Beer

Nagisa Golden Ale is a 5% golden ale from Nagisa Beer, based in Wakayama, Japan. It’s part of their spring seasonal lineup, and Nagisa Golden Ale can be found in both bottles and on tap when on sale. It’s brewed with no adjuncts at all, and thus is sold as a an “100% beer”, and was supposedly the second beer made by Nagisa Beer after they opened in 1996.

Bought this in December – not quite spring…

Nagisa Golden Ale Aroma and Taste

Nagisa Golden Ale poured out a clear golden straw colour with a large frothy white head on top that faded quick to a few bubbles around the edge of the glass and some oil-like slick on top. It had a slightly biscuity aroma along with some hints of citrus fruits on top though it didn’t really develop further than that when it had warmed up. There was a subtle bitter edge to it when I really got my nose in the glass.

The malt base in Nagisa Golden Ale was nice and crisp but only when chilled – unfortunately when Nagisa Golden Ale had warmed up, the bitter edge had become more sour than I would have liked. The citrus flavour from the aroma was present in the body – but only just. Nagisa Golden Ale seemed to be almost there until the butteriness in the body put me off of Nagisa Golden Ale. One unusually flavour in a beer could be forgiven, but two?! Perhaps this was a bad bottle, or something that had been sold too soon. Nagisa Golden Ale did finish off with the citrus notes making a comeback but by that point, I didn’t really care for it.

Nagisa Golden Ale The Bottom Line

As mentioned, perhaps this bottle of Nagisa Golden Ale was off but the best before date was well ahead in the future. If I come across a fresher bottle, then I may try it again but I’m in no rush to hunt it down.
