Century Break The Bottom Line

If you’re in the area, then Century Break is definitely worth popping into for a couple of quiet beers. It’s got a decent range of beers on at reasonable prices which all include tax. Moreover, there is no table charge and the whole bar is non-smoking as well. The food menu is also quite varied too, so if you’re vegetarian then there are also plenty of choices for you.

Lots of space in here – and it’s non-smoking too.

Century Break The Full Review

Fujisawa is a funny little city – it’s a busy little commuter town with three different train lines that pass through it and has a population of almost half a million people – yet the number of craft beer bars it has can be counted on one hand. With fingers left over. Century Break though has been a stalwart in the area since 2001 and is perhaps the most popular place in the area for some decent, well-served beers.

Located about five minutes from JR and Odakyu Fujisawa station, Century Break has space inside for about 50 people. It’s located on the second floor of a random building in some back street alleyway on the south side of the station, but it’s so well-known in the area then people can easily direct you to it. The whole place is non-smoking and there is no table charge either. It’s a strange place as it kind of reminds me of Popeye’s in Ryogoku. Moreover, whenever I’ve been to Century Break, it’s either been really super busy, or really quiet. If you like darts too, then there is also a dart board though I don’t suggest playing if you’ve had one too many.

Reasonable sizes too.

There are usual 21 taps of craft beer on at Century Break though the list is split up between imported and domestic. The beer list at Century Break is reasonable varied, with a leaning towards some of the stronger beers in Japan. Beers tend to come in three sizes: small (284ml) for ¥500 to ¥770, glass (300 to 375ml depending on the beer) for ¥750 to ¥950, and pint (586ml) from ¥900 to ¥1250. All prices include tax as well. While the beers I had were tasting good, the Minoh Beer W-IPA kicked as I ordered it and got the glass size of ¥950 reduced down to ¥500. Talk about decent customer service as well.

There is a wide variety of food on at Century Break too, with plenty of choices for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. I didn’t order anything on the day, mainly because I had a big meal at La Pausa (another Fujisawa destination that has to be done), but being a British themed pub, it meant a lot of the food Century Break serves is British style, so expect fish and chips, sausages, and cottage pie.

How to Get to Century Break

The closest station to Century Break is Fujisawa; located on the JR Tokaido and Shonan-Shinjuku line, as well as the Odakyu Line. Take the south exit out of either station and the bar is about a five minute walk.

We’re told to leave because we we’re foreign! Fuck you! Don’t go here!

Really? That’s strange as Fujisawa has plenty of foreigners in the area.
Who told you to leave?

I’d like to know more about what happened too- I’ve been to Century Break a dozen times over the years, with big groups of foreigners, by myself, with my parents, the lot. The staff have always been friendly and welcoming. My foreign friends take over the whole bar once a year for a Halloween party too.
