Ise Kadoya Tokyo Beer Wheat by Ise Kadoya Brewery

Ise Kadoya Tokyo Beer Wheat

Ise Kadoya Tokyo Beer Wheat, or as I like to call it, how-t0-missell-your-beer, is a 4% session IPA that was originally released for Tokyo Beer Week 2015 by Ise Kadoya Brewery. Why are we reviewing it so late? Well, it was sat in the BeerTengoku cellar and during a recent tidy-up, was found lurking with the expiry date coming up fast. Ise Kadoya Tokyo Beer Wheat is brewed using wheat malt, hence the wheat in the title, along with pale malt with a light infusion of new hops though what they are is unknown at the time of writing.

Ise Kadoya Tokyo Beer Wheat Aroma and Taste

I have to admit making a major mistake here. I initially thought it was a wheat beer after reading the title and the Ise Kadoya beer lineup page so I used my weizen glass. Talk about a major screw-up as the 600ml glass quickly filled up with frothy head. I guess the only good thing to come out of it was that the wheaty flavour was far more accentuated in this glass then the subsequent IPA glass I quickly obtained. The body was a hazy golden colour with a light frothy head on top. Ise Kadoya Tokyo Beer Wheat had a subtle aroma of sharp grapefruit along with the wheat that was subdued compared to the weizen glass.

Ise Kadoya Tokyo Beer Wheat is a session beer and with that I expected something light, crisp and refreshing and that’s exactly what I got. Nothing spectacular to write about as the hops were overpowering and produced a tropical range of flavours which meant the wheat flavour was pretty much non-existent in comparison.

Ise Kadoya Tokyo Beer Wheat One Line Review

Ise Kadoya Tokyo Beer Wheat is a simple tasty beer but quickly forgotten. It’s difficult to recommend it at the price too.
