Aroma & Taste

  • Notable Aroma: Light citrus aroma with dusting of straw wheat aroma. Slight yeast phenol funk present when warm with light sweetness.
  • Notable Taste: Low bitterness with a citrus hop flavour. Light straw wheat flavour with a subtle yeast phenol flavour as warms. Light bodied and a touch dry.

3rd Barrel Yummy : Aroma & Taste

3rd Barrel Yummy poured out a hazy golden yellow colour with a thin amount of white head that left a few thin rings around the side of the glass. The aroma was an interesting mix of citrus hops and some straw wheat aroma. The hops brought a lemon and grapefruit profile to the beer, which combined with the wheat, left me thinking whether 3rd Barrel Yummy is trying to be an American Belgian wheat ale or perhaps a Belgian American wheat ale? What’s the difference – well which aroma are you wanting? Hops or yeast? There was a touch of malt sweetness to the nose as 3rd Barrel Yummy warmed up too.

The body began with a low bitterness that had a lemon and grapefruit flavour to it, and once again, a straw wheat flavour was lying in wait. The yeast brought a funky phenol flavour to support the hops and wheat and didn’t detract away from the drinking. 3rd Barrel Yummy was on the dry side of drinking, with just a smidgen of sweetness in the body and would have been nice on a warm Spring day.

3rd Barrel Yummy : The Bottom Line

If you’re going to name your beer “yummy” then you better make sure it is. While 3rd Barrel Yummy is drinkable, I’ve had better, but I’ve also had worse.
