West Coast Thermal Void is a 10% West Coast Triple IPA from West Coast Brewing, based in Mochimune, in Shizuoka, Japan. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is rather sporadic, like other beers from West Coast Brewing, so either buy it now, or hold onto the next time it comes out, but when that is, nobody knows. West Coast Thermal Void is brewed using Comet, Talus, and Waimea hops.

West Coast Thermal Void : Aroma & Taste

West Coast Thermal Void poured out a slightly hazy golden straw colour with a massive plump white head that lingered, leaving some streaks down the side of the glass. The immediate aroma was a dank resinous one with some orange and lemon present underneath that pine nose. It wasn’t hard to notice it, but it has been a while since I’ve had such a fresh dank beer that I wasn’t really looking for anything else. Still, it was great to see some other aromas being present, though the alcohol heat that came with West Coast Thermal Void was a touch too strong for my liking and could have done with being restrained a touch. There was a light malt sweetness, with some pale ale notes and a smidgen of caramel being noted as the beer warmed up.

The body immediate pricked up my tastebuds with its dank, resinous notes that lingered from start to finish, which was combined with a lingering medium bitterness too. As West Coast Thermal Void warmed up, there was some medium citrus flavours present to it, some orange and lemon lying in wait. Once again though, the alcohol heat was noted in the body, and while it wasn’t enough to be overpowering, there were times that it did dominate over the dank and citrus notes that I was enjoying so much.

West Coast Thermal Void : The Bottom Line

West Coast Thermal Void is certainly not devoid of flavour, but reign in the alcohol heat a touch and I think I could get to a third can of this.
