West Coast Harmonic Dreams : Aroma & Taste

This is the second iteration of West Coast Harmonic Dreams I’ve had – the previous one was a few years back in Chiba after popping into Chouseiya. At that time, the weather was cold and drizzly but the highlight was West Coast Harmonic Dreams and I’ve been looking for it ever since.

Well someone at WCB heard my request though it also seems that the hops that went into West Coast Harmonic Dreams had changed as it and also the byline as this is now an Extra Dank West Coast Double IPA. And West Coast aren’t kidding. Pouring West Coast Harmonic Dreams into a class presents you with a relatively clear golden orange colour with a medium amount of fluffy white head that collapsed to a much smaller one. However, the dank resinous pungent aroma kicks through the head – who says you need head to smell a beer? Once you cut through that dankness, there is also some orange and pineapple notes, with a touch of malt sweetness and some alcohol heat. Not enough to be off-putting but enough to know its there.

The body begins with a medium bitterness which is then soon followed up with the dank resinous notes found in the nose permeating through drinking. The light-medium body is enough to support the flavours in West Coast Harmonic Dreams, with more of the orange and pineapple coming through as the beer warms up. There was a touch of alcohol heat too present but more of a supporting flavour to drinking rather than dominating. West Coast Harmonic Dreams finished off with a lingering dank stickiness and a touch of caramel sweetness.
