Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch : The Bottom Line

Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch doesn’t stray from the tried-and-tested model that Craft Beer Market offers but with its outside drinking area, and the array of gyoza on the menu, is one of the better branches if you’re looking for somewhere cheap to drink in Tokyo. Perhaps the only downsides to Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch is that it isn’t open throughout the day so you may have to find yourself drinking somewhere else during the afternoon lull during the week and the dreaded table charge makes its reappearance.

Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch : The Full Review

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a Craft Beer Market branch. It’s not like they’re too dissimilar from one another anyway and most of them tend to offer the same experience – wide range of taps, with some of the cheapest craft beers you’ll find in Tokyo, with a selection of fried food on the menu. So why come to Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch I hear you ask? Well it has an outside drinking area, big uptick there, and also is quite close to Tokyo station.

Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch opened October 2021 in the Tokyo Torch – another high rise sprawling complex in Tokyo with some shops and restaurants for the office workers in the area – which is located less than 5 minutes walk from the Marunouchi exit of Tokyo station.

Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch : Atmosphere & Interior

The main calling for me at Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch is the vast seating area outside – I do love some outside drinking in the warmer months and I was not let down when I went. Of course, there is space for customers inside when the weather isn’t so good. Inside, there around 15 seats at the counter, space for another 20 people at various combinations of tables inside, and then outside space for around 40 people, though be warned, if you’re not taking up the whole table, you may find yourself sitting next to other people – like reporters for the Japan Times (Hi Jesse!)

The whole of Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch is non-smoking though there is a table charge of ¥300 for which we got some marinated stuff. I say stuff as I wasn’t too sure what it was but it apparently changes on a daily basis so you may get lucky and get something edible or at least resembling food. There is also some free WiFi form The Tokyo Torch building itself. Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch is also family friendly and if you have pets, you can take them to the outside terrace though not inside the bar.

Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch : Beer & Tap Information

Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch, like other branches of Craft Beer Market, has over 25 taps of craft beer, though the actual amount on can vary on a day to day; however, one thing for certain is that they also have some taps of regular macro beer, so you can come here with your non-craft beer drinking friends. The beers tend to come in two sizes: glass (250 ml) from ¥550 and US pints (473ml) from ¥880. There are also special beers on the menu that come in smaller sizes but the menus are pretty comprehensive with the sizes.

There isn’t any happy hour but there is a beer flight which gets you three 150ml glasses for ¥1,100, though those beers do not cover the whole menu and you may end up with some smaller glasses of the more expensive beers. There is also an all-you-can-drink-plan for 2000 which gets you 2 hours of drinking for most of the beers on the menu, with those not included mentioned on the menu.

Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch : Food Information

Craft Beer Market Tokyo Torch unique selling point when it comes to food is that it specialises in gyoza and spicy food. Now I am a fan of both but when I saw someone order some spicy chicken, all they had done was pour lots of chilli flakes on top of the fried chicken. So instead, I went for the gyoza option and was left feeling like I had chosen the right option. The lamb gyoza were the best, though the wasabi gyoza lacked the usual piquent wasabi feeling of pain in the nose. The menus were in Japanese; however, a member of staff did offer some English menus for both the drinks and the food. All the prices also included tax and while vegetarians may find it hard to get some food, there are some choices for vegetarians on the menu.
