Open Air Avifauna : Aroma & Taste

Open Air Avifauna poured out a rather hazy golden orange colour with a medium amount of white head that faded to a few bubbles around the edge. The aroma was first and foremost citrus, with lemon and grapefruit being the dominant aromas, before a tropical nose of mango and pineapple came though. In terms of malt aroma, there was a light malt sweetness that was present when warm though it didn’t dominate over the hoppiness of the beer. Open Air Avifauna has no discernible off aromas.

In spite of Open Air not having an IBU listing for Open Air Avifauna, the bitterness was on the low side for a hoppy beer, so those worried about having their taste buds destroyed will be fine with this beer. As in the nose, Open Air Avifauna has a strong citrus and tropical flavour to the body with the flavours – citrus, grapefruit, mango, and pineapple once again – lingering long into the night. Open Air Avifauna finished with a sweet flourish of hop fruitiness but was let down by being a bit too hazy for the style in my opinion.

Open Air Avifauna : The Bottom Line

Open Air Avifauna is a nice beer but a bit too fruity for my liking for an IPL. Could be a touch dryer.
