Two Rabbits Black Forest Chocolate Cake : Aroma and Taste

Two Rabbits Black Forest Chocolate Cake poured out a pitch black colour with a large amount of frothy tan head that left some streaks down the edge of the glass. The aroma began with a rich dark and bitter chocolate nose with some light cacao notes and a touch of creaminess present. As Two Rabbits Black Forest Chocolate Cake began to warm up, some more aromas developed with a light roasted malt aroma which learnt a slight caramel aroma to the beer, along with a subtle fragrant cherry nose appearing alongside a slight alcohol warmth, reminding me a little bit of kirsch – a German brandy that is sometimes used in cooking.

The body began with a medium bitterness – nothing face curling like a double IPA – but the bitterness did remind me of some high cacao chocolate, of which I am not a fan of, as it has a very distinctive taste. Two Rabbits Black Forest Chocolate Cake followed that up with a light roasted malt, again with a slight touch of caramel being present as the beer warmed up, alongside a sticky body, which while sweet, was not cloying, like an actual Black Forest Gateau – I’m sorry but there is only so much chocolate that I can handle. There was a smidgen of smokiness to Two Rabbits Black Forest Chocolate Cake as it warmed up, heading the beer in a slight different direction as to what one would expect but it was a nice twist.

Two Rabbits Black Forest Chocolate Cake : The Bottom Line

Two Rabbits Black Forest Chocolate Cake is a good twist on a style of cake that thankfully doesn’t go the full pastry stout avenue. Easy to drink more than one too.
