Barbaric Whistle Song : Aroma & Taste

Barbaric Whistle Song poured out a slightly hazy vibrant yellow colour with a thin amount of white head on top, though it didnā€™t last long and left just a thin ring of bubbles around the edge. The aroma from Barbaric Whistle Song was all Belgian wit with a twist ā€“ some punchy citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit were present alongside the typical coriander spice hit. This also came along with a yeasty funk of banana and clove that made Barbaric Whistle Song a delight on the nose. Lots going on in the beer but having the citrus hop flavours certainly made this beer stand out from the usual staid crowd of Belgian wits.

Barbaric Whistle Song began with a surprising citrus bitterness to the body with some more of the lemon and grapefruit being present, and with the banana and clove funk, it made Barbaric Whistle Song a mixed up beer, in the good way, to drink. As it warmed up, there was some spiciness from the coriander, and had a nice, crisp body. There was a touch of astringency in the end of Barbaric Whistle Song ā€“ not enough to screw your face up but definitely enough to make you think that something else had been added. It was only after drinking this beer and doing some research that it became apparent that there was some yuzu in the mix too. An interesting twist there.

Barbaric Whistle Song : The Bottom Line

Barbaric Whistle Song is an interesting twist on a style that has its guidelines stricly adhered to.
