Bucket in Musashi-Kosugi, Kanagawa

Bucket : The Bottom Line

In spite of basketball being on in the background, Bucket is decent little place if you don’t mind an IPA heavy taplist. Not that is a bad thing for me, but I can imagine that some people might look at the tap list and think “oh great, more IPAs”. The prices are reasonable and there is a good chance that the beer fridge might have something you want to drink rather than what is on tap.

Bucket : The Full Review

Bucket, in spite of the name, has nothing to do with either buckets or pails, and as for the reason why its called Bucket was not given. Never mind, a name doesn’t maketh the place, or some quality historical quote like that. But what Bucket is a craft beer bar and bottle shop located in Musashi-Kosugi, an area that has fast become a popular place for commuters to live in, with all of the high-rise buildings that have been constructed over the last few years. Both the north and south side have seen massive redevelopment, which often means the introduction of craft beer bars. Bucket isn’t the first in the area, it opened in August 2020, but compared to other places in the area, such as the now closed: Cosugi Lodge, it has lasted a bit longer it seems.

Bucket is located on the north side of Musashi-Kosugi station, though I suggest if you’re coming to the area, either take the Toyoko Line out of Shibuya/Yokohama, or the Nambu line out of Kawasaki, else you are going to have a very long walk from the Yokosuka / Shonan-Shinjuku line platforms of about 1 km or so.

Bucket : Atmosphere & Interior

Thanks for following some stupid directions from Google Maps, I ended up entering Bucket via the back door from a side street, until I noticed that the front door was the place where I was supposed to enter. Never mind, it made for a nice breeze and conversation started with the customers that were already there, and how I must have been new to the place. Apparently, I haven’t been the first person to do that, and I’m hoping one of you readers will be the next to do it.

Bucket has space for about 20 people inside, with 12 people seated at the various tables dotted around the bar, and also 8 or 9 people at the rather long counter. The whole place is non-smoking and there is no table charge either. There is some free wifi available too with perhaps the best wifi password I’ve come across – ever!

In terms of background attractions, there was a massive TV that you could not help but notice, playing the sport of basketball – a sport that I have never gotten on with and have never enjoyed or understood the thrill or excitement of to be honest. I probably never will either considering some of the games go upwards of 100 points. But this is a beer blog, not a basketball blog, because if it was the latter, then it would be me just griping about the sport.

Bucket : Beer & Tap Information

There are eight taps of beer on at Bucket, with a split between domestic and imports, though on the day I went, the tap list was heavily curated towards IPAs, though there were at least two non-IPAs on the menu. The beers come in three sizes: half (240ml) from ¥750, 300 ml from ¥900, and then pint (473 ml) from ¥1080. There is also an option of growler fills, with the beers being price from ¥2.1 / ml, which was kind of helpful to know. Moreover, there is a big beer fridge of options behind the bar, with beers available for takeaway only. There wasn’t any happy hour nor any beer flights either, but the prices do include tax.

Bucket : Food Information

I did order some food here but I forgot to take a picture, though no doubt you can guess what I ordered. The surprising thing was that all of the menus for food and drink were in English. No Japanese menus at all in the bar – very strange to be honest. If you’re vegetarian then you can order the waffle fries I guess or mix nuts, but if you’re hungry, then you’re going to be going home on an empty stomach. In hindsight, I should have gone for the fried gyoza, but as soon as I saw the chips, I was gone.
