Choryo Triple IPA : Aroma & Taste

Triple IPAs are a notoriously difficult beer to both make and enjoy. They’re often loaded with malt to get the alcohol high, though not often fermented to a low enough level where most of the sugars are converted to alcohol. This means they can be cloying and as a result, the hops are loaded up to the max to cut through that sugary base. With Choryo Triple IPA pouring out a light golden straw colour, perhaps the addition of grape sugar and helped to thin out the base somewhat as it didn’t smell cloying or too sweet. What it did smell like was the wonderful addition of tropical fruits in the form of mango and pineapple, with some citrus notes of lemon and orange, and a big dank resinous nose – everything I love coming together as one. It also helps that Choryo Triple IPA was super fresh, with this being less than 10 days old when I tried it.

The body to Choryo Triple IPA started out with a bitterness that was well-rounded and smooth without it being overpowering. The balance between the hops and malt was also extremely well done – a tropical and citrus body of the same fruits in the nose, combined with the resinous dankness that was also present meant that Choryo Triple IPA was more than halfway gone in the space of a blink of an eye. It also helped that the body was relatively light for a triple IPA – none of the rich sweetness often found in high alcohol IPAs was present, and that was definitely down to the choice of using grape sugar to help boost the sugars for fermentation while leaving a drier than usual body for drinking. There was a touch of creaminess also present with just a smidgen of alcohol heat also picked up as Choryo Triple IPA warmed up.

Choryo Triple IPA : The Bottom Line

With such as short shelf life, Choryo Triple IPA is going to be a blink and miss it beer, but it’s a beer that you need to find and drink.
