Y Market Kenya Black Brew Kettle is a 6% coffee porter from Y Market Brewing, based in Nagoya, in Aichi, Japan. It’s part of their collaboration series with Q.O.L Coffee and can be found in both cans and on draught. As the name suggests, Y Market Kenya Black Brew Kettle is brewed with Kenyan coffee beans, specifically the Kenya Cof Embu Mwiria AA straing. It also uses New Zealand Motueka hops. At the time of writing, Y Market Kenya Black Brew Kettle is looking like a one-off beer.

Y Market Kenya Black Brew Kettle : Aroma & Taste

Y Market Kenya Black Brew Kettle poured out a pitch black colour with a large amount of frothy off-white tan head that lingered for a fairly long time. With this being a coffee porter, it would be obvious to say that it smelt like coffee, but I have to say it. The aroma wasn’t that strong though and that’s probably because the beans used were a light roast, and as such, less of the acridness and acidity that comes with a dark roast was not present here. Once Y Market Kenya Black Brew Kettle had warmed up, there was also a hint of creaminess and vanilla present in t

With a light roast being used for the beer, there wasn’t your typical dark roast 1-2 punch of acrid and acidity in the beer. Instead, it was a smooth, well-rounded beer of chocolate and light coffee notes. The body itself of the beer was lighter than expected, which allowed some of the vanilla flavour in the beer to shine through – except no vanilla had been used in the beer. The lingering smoothness of the body lent some more oomph to the chocolate and coffee flavours to mellow out some more.

Y Market Kenya Black Brew Kettle : The Bottom Line

Y Market Kenya Black Brew Kettle is a nice and smooth coffee porter – well worthy of a purchase.
