Black Tide From The Deep : Aroma & Taste

Black Tide From The Deep poured out a deep ruby brown colour with a large fluffy off-white tan coloured head on top that clung to the side of the glass during drinking, leaving some slightly off-white streaks. The aroma coming off the beer though was nothing like a lager – a large phenolic aroma that was reminiscent of a Belgian dubbel. Think of plums and dried fruit, and you’d be on the right lines. There was some floral notes from the hops, though they were faint. When Black Tide From The Deep had warmed up, there was warm alcohol nose to the beer but it wasn’t potent not hot.

The body to Black Tide From The Deep started off with a rich malty sweetness – not cloying but enough to know that this is most definitely not a lager for knocking back at a BBQ. The phenols were present again with some dried fruits and plums appearing, and I really thought I had a Belgian dubbel in the glass. To compound matters, as Black Tide From The Deep warmed up, there was a light spicy pepperiness in the backbone of the beer that played off nicely against the phenols in the beer.

Black Tide From The Deep : The Bottom Line

Black Tide From The Deep is a big, bold beer that is great for when it’s cold outside. Full of flavour and developed nicely.
