Break Edge High Hopes : Aroma & Taste

Break Edge High Hopes poured out a very bright orange colour with a light fluffy white head on top that faded to a few bubbles around the side of the glass, and then left some sticky streaks down the glass. The aroma was a mixture of both citrus fruits, and tropical fruits, so much so that Break Edge High Hopes kind of reminded me of a light fruit juice than an actual beer. The citrus was in the form of orange and lemon – a nice change from grapefruit I must say – and the tropical fruits came in the form of peaches and pineapples. There was a subtle sweet touch to Break Edge High Hopes, though it was the hoppy fruity flavours that were at the forefront.

Break Edge High Hopes began with a smooth, rounded bitterness to the body before allowing the hops to shine through the body. The orange and lemon were present alongside the peach and pineapple, which helped to reinforce the idea of this being more of a fruit juice than an actual beer. As Break Edge High Hopes warmed up, some more of the malts came through, bringing a slight sweetness to balance out the hops. Unsurprisingly, Break Edge High Hopes finished off with a lingering fruity flavour to the aftertaste.

Break Edge High Hopes : The Bottom Line

Break Edge High Hopes is very good first beer from Break Edge Beerworks but the price of admission is a touch on the high side.
