Y Market Masterpiece Dual is a 10% double IPA from Y Market Brewing, based in Nagoya, in Aichi, Japan. It’s unknown whether it’s part of their regular or limited edition lineup, but it can be found in both cans and on tap. Y Market Masterpiece Dual is brewed using Citra and Mosaic, two of the most commonly used hops when it comes to IPAs and often the pair of hops that are considered to be some of the best, hence the name Masterpiece Dual.

Y Market Masterpiece Dual : Aroma & Taste

Y Market Masterpiece Dual poured out a slightly hazy golden colour with a thin amount of white head on top that faded to a few bubbles around the outside of the glass. The aroma was very much hop centric, with plenty of it going on. Y Market Masterpiece Dual is a very fruity beer with notable aromas being citrus in the form of lemon and grapefruit, along with some tropical fruits also present in the form of peaches and pineapple. At 10%, I really couldn’t detect any alcohol heat off the beer at all – it was incredibly well hidden and I spent the whole time drinking this thinking, “is there any alcohol in this beer at all?” – a downfall that was to hit me hard the next day.

I often wondered why beers come with warnings on them, and I think Y Market Masterpiece Dual should have one as well! It’s a boody dangerous beer because throughout drinking, I swear I could not taste any alcohol heat to it. The beer started off with a bitter kick, though it was swift and over quickly, along with a very hoppy and fruity body – citrus in the form of lemon and grapefruit, and tropical in the form of peaches and pineapple – that were nicely balanced. The body was also quite dry, which allowed the hops to really shine through and be the star of the beer, right into the aftertaste. After having one can, I quickly opened a second – a decision that I regretted the next day.

Y Market Masterpiece Dual : The Bottom Line

Y Market Masterpiece Dual is a fantastic beer though some alcohol heat may help just to remind you that you are in fact drinking, or in my case necking, a 10% beer. Wonderful stuff.
