Black Tide Midnight Flame : Aroma & Taste

Let’s address the elephant in the room – why is there tartan packaging on this can? I have no idea as to why it is there and it is perhaps the first time I’ve seen it on a beer can.

Anyway, moving onto the important thing – how does Black Tide Midnight Flame smell and taste? Well it poured out a thick black colour with a tiny amount of off-white tan coloured head that left a few bubbles around the side of the glass. The aroma though was of Black Forest Gateau – lots of cherry and chocolate flavour coming though, but no booziness at all – either when chilled or warmed. There was a touch of roasted black malt aroma once Black Tide Midnight Flame had warmed up but it was all about the blending of the cherry and chocolate aromas.

Black Tide Midnight Flame carried on with these two aromas into the body, putting them at the forefront of the drinking experience. The cherry flavour had a natural flavouring to it, and was thick throughout drinking, while the chocolate was lighter in flavour, with none of the bitterness that is associated with dark chocolate. The black malts brought some acidity to the beer, just cutting through the flavours but only just and was a nice distraction from the two main flavours. The beer finished off with the cherry and chocolate flavours fading away together.
