Black Tide Umibozu’s Delight : Aroma & Taste

Black Tide Umibozu’s Delight certainly poured out hazy – it was such a hazy dark golden orange colour that it could have been from the bottom of the sea. The head was large and frothy, with some streaks left down the side of the glass. The aroma though smelt, thankfully, nothing like the bottom of the sea but instead of a tropical island – lots of citrus and tropical notes in Black Tide Umibozu’s Delight. The most noticeable ones were of lemons and oranges, along with some peaches and pineapples too. When the beer had warmed up, there were some notes of vanilla – most interesting – but also some light sweetness from the malts.

The body started off with a bitter punch to the chops though it faded fast to the deeps of the fruity flavours contained – more citrus and tropical flavours as in the nose. A nice balance between them made Black Tide Umibozu’s Delight very easy drinking though there was a touch of alcohol heat once it had warmed up. Not of a level to be off putting but enough to be noticeable at the end of drinking. Towards the end, the fruity flavours lingered on in the aftertaste before a subtle sweetness came through to wash them away.
