Far Yeast New World IPA is 6.5% NZ-IPA from Far Yeast Brewing, based in Kosuge village, in Yamanashi, Japan. It’s part of their “Hop Frontier” series and can be found in both cans and on draught. Far Yeast New World IPA takes its name from the new beer style – New Zealand Style India Pale Ale – which was added to the beer style guidelines set by the U.S. Brewers Association in February 2021. As such, Far Yeast New World IPA uses New Zealand Pacific Sunrise and Nelson Sauvin along with Australian Vic Secret hops.

Far Yeast New World IPA : Aroma & Taste

I have to admit, I don’t understand how NZ-IPA is a style of beer if it is just using some local hops, but that’s not for me to decide. All I know about Far Yeast New World IPA is that it is that style of beer – and it lives up to it. This picture doesn’t really do Far Yeast New World IPA justice as it was a much brighter orange than the picture suggests. The nose was full on fruity with lots of citrus fruits, such as lemon, grapefruit, and orange being present, and intermingling along with some tropical fruits in the form of pineapple and mango. There was a lot of fruitiness going on in the nose that the malts didn’t really come through until warmed up but I was happy.

The body was not bitter, more like a NE-IPA than a full on bitter WC-IPA or American IPA. Far Yeast New World IPA had a cacophony of flavours in the body – lots of citrus and tropical flavours akin to the nose – and the thick body meant this tasted more like a juice than a beer. At 6.5%, there wasn’t any hint of alcohol burn to the beer, with the aftertaste being as fruity as the body.

Far Yeast New World IPA : The Bottom Line

I don’t get the NZ-IPA style but I really liked Far Yeast New World IPA. If you like fruity IPAs, then you’ll like this too.
