Sakai Kashi NeIPA is a 6% New England IPA from Sakai Kashi Brewery, based in Sakai, in Ibaraki, Japan. It’s part of their bottled and draught line up, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. Moreover, Sakai Kashi have also not said what hops went into making Sakai Kashi NeIPA though we do know that it has an IBU of 8.

Sakai Kashi NeIPA : Aroma & Taste

Another “new” brewery in Japan, and another brewery that thinks they can make a NE-IPA. Guess what? They can’t. I could spend so much time writing about Sakai Kashi NeIPA and all of its bad points that it would actually be a waste of my time. So I’ll keep it short and sweet.

Sakai Kashi NeIPA is NOTHING that a NE-IPA should be. It started off being a dark orange colour – a warning sign for a hazy that something has oxidised or not been used properly. The aroma was buttery and plastic, lacking any discernible hoppy aroma. The body was as much of a mess as the nose. The first sip, and I use sip gracefully here as I didn’t even want to do that, was just disgusting. It was almost as if the brewery had gotten hold of the oldest hazy IPA they could have found, opened it, left it in a glass for a month, then tried to replicate those flavours.

Sakai Kashi NeIPA : The Bottom Line

A drain pour – even after letting it warm up to see if it would “improve.” It didn’t.
