Riot Beer Myth is a 5% witbier from Riot Beer, based in Setagaya, in Tokyo, Japan. It’s part of their bottled and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. Riot Beer Myth is brewed using kankitsu, a kind of Japanese fruit which is called citreae , and also the usual coriander seeds found in witbier.

Riot Beer Myth : Aroma & Taste

Riot Beer Myth poured out a hazy golden orange colour with a reasonable amount of head – I know I wasn’t using the “correct” glass for a witbier but it was the closest I had to hand. Riot Beer Myth had a pithy citrus aroma, which I guess came from the kankitsu, but I’ve never seen, let alone eaten, one before trying this beer. The aroma then segued into your typical witbier aroma of some spice and a light phenolic fruity aroma.

The body was a case of more of the same – not a bad thing by any means but there was no further development of flavours. The kankitsu brought a pithy citrus flavour to the beer, which was balanced against some of the wheat and spice found in the body too. The lingering aftertaste of the fruity phenols was nice, but not bold nor discerning.

Riot Beer Myth : The Bottom Line

Riot Beer Myth is a solid witbier – it’s not revolutionary or evolutionary though to excite most people.
