Kyoto Beer Smoochies is a 7% export stout from Kyoto Chabeer Brewing Company, based in Kyoto, in Japan. Though it’s part of the draught and bottled lineup, its availability at the time of writing is unknown. Kyoto Beer Smoochies is brewed using cherries, though where the cherries are from, and how they are used is unknown at the time of writing.

Kyoto Beer Smoochies Aroma and Taste

Kyoto Beer Smoochies poured out a pitch black colour with a large amount of frothy, tan head on top that faded to a much smaller amount and left some streaks down the side of the glass as the beer went down. Kyoto Beer Smoochies smelt like your typical export stout – a decent amount of chocolate and coffee nose, with some hints of caramel, but the cherries brought a different level of aroma through. A tart, cherry aroma was present throughout drinking, that made Kyoto Beer Smoochies smell like chocolate coated cherries and was nicely balanced between the two.

The body of Kyoto Beer Smoochies started off smooth, with a decent underlying flavour of chocolate and roasted coffee, before the tartness of the cherries took the flavour in a different direction. Like in the nose, the cherry and chocolate flavour mixed together well, and was balanced throughout drinking. At 7%, there was just a smidgen of alcohol heat lying in the background – not much and not enough to detract away from the flavours going on – that kind of gave Kyoto Beer Smoochies a flavour resembling an alcoholic version of a Black Forest Gateau. The lingering chocolate and cherry flavours carried on into the aftertaste.

I really liked Kyoto Beer Smoochies with its pleasant, but restrained, flavour profile.
