Okutone Ale is a 5% American wheat ale from Okutone Brewing, based in Minakami, in Gunma, Japan. It’s part of their all-year round range and can be found in both bottles and on tap. Okutone Ale is brewed using Cascade, Citra, and Simcoe hops imported from the USA.

Okutone Ale Aroma and Taste

Okutone Ale poured out a slightly dark golden orange colour with very little head to it. I have to admit, I was expecting some banana and clove aromas to come off the beer, but due to a different yeast strain being used for American wheat ales, that wasn’t to be the case strangely enough. The aroma was far more like a pale ale – lots of lemon and citrus flavours coming along, though they were light in terms of punch. Once Okutone Ale had been given the chance to warm up, there was a slight wheaty aspect to the nose, nothing too heavy or powerful but it was there.

The body had a slight subtle bitter kick but again, it wasn’t powerful nor long lasting. The hops continued to bring a lemon citrus flourish to the beer with a faint wheaty backbone to the body. Okutone Ale was relatively dry too, nothing thick or sticky going on throughout drinking, though once it had warmed up, it did have a faint hint of sweetness to it.
