Be Easy Chondo Porter is a 5.5% English porter from Be Easy Brewing, based in Hirosaki, in Aomori, Japan. It’s part of their bottled and draft lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. Be Easy Chondo Porter takes its name from the local dialect “chondo” which means “chodo ii” or “exactly right” in English.

Be Easy Chondo Porter Aroma and Taste

Be Easy Chondo Porter poured out a dark brown, almost black colour, with a large amount of fluffy brown head on top that clung to the side of the glass, leaving brown streaks as the beer went down. Be Easy Chondo Porter was malt forward, with a large black malt and chocolate aroma coming through, with just a hint of acridity from the black malt. There was a slight nutty edge to the aroma once Be Easy Chondo Porter had warmed up, but there was nothing really to note from the hops.

In spite of the image of dark beers being full bodied, Be Easy Chondo Porter was rather light on the palate. The black malt and chocolate flavours were the first to come through, along with a hint of caramel for desert. There was also some notes of acridity in the body, that could have come through the over extraction of the black malt. Though dark beers should be warmed up, having done that to Be Easy Chondo Porter didn’t cause any other flavours to really come through. The black malts left a lingering aftertaste on the palate in the aftertaste but it was quite light.
