Two Rabbits Coffee Stout is a 6% stout from Two Rabbits Brewing Company, based in Omihachiman, in Shiga, Japan. It’s part of their all-year round lineup and can be found in cans and on tap, in spite of the image below being of the bottled version. Two Rabbits Coffee Stout uses cold-brew coffee from beans especially selected and roasted by Micro-lady Coffee Stand in Hikone.

Two Rabbits Coffee Stout Aroma and Taste

Two Rabbits Coffee Stout poured out a pitch black colour with a thick tan head on top that clung to the side of the glass throughout drinking. Though Two Rabbits Coffee Stout uses cold brew coffee, it didn’t have the acrid coffee nose that is sometimes associated with a coffee stout. Of course, it had a strong coffee aroma to it, with some chocolate going on as well, but it was hard to note where the coffee ended and the beer began. There wasn’t much else going on with the beer – nothing of hoppiness to note – so if you like your stouts reeking of coffee and chocolate, then you’ll like the aroma of Two Rabbits Coffee Stout.

The body to Two Rabbits Coffee Stout was much smoother than I thought it was going to be – again with cold brew coffee, the dregs of the brew can be bitter and rough, but there was none of that here. The coffee and chocolate body was thick and luscious, belying it’s 6% of alcohol. Even when the beer had warmed up, there was no noticeable black malt or coffee acridity to it, just lots of coffee flavours.

Two Rabbits Coffee Stout The Bottom Line

Is this a coffee flavoured beer, or a beer flavoured coffee? Either way, it’s top notch.
