Y Market 4D Simcoe is a 6% American IPA from Y Market Brewing Company, based in Nagoya, in Aichi, Japan. It’s part of their regular line up and can be found in both cans and on tap across Japan. As the name suggests, Y Market 4D Simcoe is predominantly brewed using imported US Simcoe hops, though its hop bill also includes Citra and Mosaic, both being imported from the US.

Y Market 4D Simcoe Aroma and Taste

Y Market 4D Simcoe poured out a light golden yellow colour, akin to the flesh of a white grapefruit – very light, but with some haze to it. The head was plump and white though that faded fast to a few bubbles around the side of the glass. The aroma coming off Y Market 4D Simcoe was a sharp and vibrant citrus one, with mostly lemon and a tinge of grapefruit coming through. Once Y Market 4D Simcoe had been given the chance to warm up, there was a light tropical flavour of pineapple and mango also coming through, but it was faint.

The body had a weak bitterness to it – Y Market 4D Simcoe is not going to win any awards for bitterness or astrincy – however it did have a dry body with lots of fruitiness coming through. The vibrant lemon and grapefruit were the main flavours going on, with very little distinctive malt flavours going on. There was no caramel, no oatiness, no pilsner – a beer all about the hops. The citrus flavours lingered right through the aftertaste, lemon a slightly tart mouthfeel behind.
