West Coast Fruit Train is a 5.5% fruit sour from West Coast Brewing, based in Mochimune, in Shizuoka, Japan. At the time of writing, it is unknown whether West Coast Fruit Train is part of the regular lineup; however, it is available in both cans and on tap. As the name suggests, West Coast Fruit Train is brewed using organic yuzu, also known as Japanese citron, and also organic lemons.

West Coast Fruit Train Aroma and Taste

West Coast Fruit Train poured out a hazy golden honey colour with a few bubbles of white head on top that faded to a slick white ring on top. The aroma was of an initial sour one, but the yuzu-like aroma, with a tart lemon fragrance came through soon after. In spite of letting West Coast Fruit Train warm up, there was barely any malt character to the beer, with just the faintest of pilsner-like sweetness coming through to take away some of the tartness from the aroma.

The body had a solid sour bite to it that lacked the depth of a regular sour beer, but that is usually the case of a kettle sour. West Coast Fruit Train had lots of fruitiness though – both from the fruits that had been used, as well as from the yeast too. The yuzu and lemon flavours lingered, until the sweetness from the plums came through, with a slight stickiness to the body. The aftertaste was more of the same – fruitiness interspersed with some sourness.
