AJB Fresh Hazy IPA is an 8% hazy IPA from Anglo-Japanese Brewing Company, based in Nozawa, in Nagano, Japan. It’s part of their limited edition series and can be found in both bottles and on tap at some places. At the time of writing, it’s unknown what hops or yeast went into making AJB Fresh Hazy IPA.

AJB Fresh Hazy IPA Aroma and Taste

AJB Fresh Hazy IPA poured out a hazy orangey brown colour with a massive amount of fluffy white head on top that clung to the side of the glass throughout drinking. The aroma coming off the beer when chilled was weird – it had the fruitiness that I have come to expect from a hazy IPA, but also a musty cardboard aroma to it as well. The hops brought a peach-like aroma to the beer which got stronger as the beer warmed up, as did some of the phenols from the yeast as well. All in all, a very peculiar aroma to a style of beer to be honest.

The body didn’t have any initial bitterness to it, but the mustiness was prevalent from start to finish, and seemed to be in tandem with the peach-like flavour too from the beer. AJB Fresh Hazy IPA wasn’t sweet either – quite a dry-like body from a style that I’ve come to expect to be fruity and juicy and sticky. At 8% though, the alcohol was well-hidden and didn’t come through at all. In fact, it only hit me about 30 min later after finishing the beer. However, there was a lingering plastic-like quality to AJB Fresh Hazy IPA after drinking it – a weird aftertaste to have on the palate.

AJB Fresh Hazy IPA The Bottom Line

AJB are consistently inconsistent with their beers – AJB Fresh Hazy IPA is a miss from me.
