Craft Beer Station in Shizuoka, Shizuoka

Craft Beer Station The Bottom Line

If all bars were as friendly and as warming as Craft Beer Station then I’d never be able to leave. While the prices are on the more expensive side for Shizuoka they do thankfully include tax in the price, the atmosphere and generosity of both the bar man and the other customers could not be faulted at all. The bar man did a brilliant job in getting everyone talking, by being friendly and inviting, but never invasive or overbearing. The whole place is non-smoking and there is also some free WiFi too. There is no table charge at Craft Beer Station and there are also some English menus too for those who want them.

Craft Beer Station The Full Review

While sitting in Hug Hop, I was told about Craft Beer Station across the road and how I should go there for some fun times – sounded ominous and I don’t know what kind of vibe I was giving off to the bar staff, but unfortunately, I couldn’t get into Craft Beer Station at the time as there was a Belgian beer event happening. So I took a walk around the area to Standout then sauntered back over to the bar.

Craft Beer Station opened in January 2016 and is located in the popular district of Koyamachi in between Shin-Shizuoka and Shizuoka station. It’s quite easy to miss Craft Beer Station as you walk along the street as the narrow entrance to the stairwell that leads up to the bar is pretty much nondescript so make sure you look carefully. Inside, there’s space for about 20 people to sit, with 8 seats at the counter and another 12 seats at various tables and high counter bars. You could probably get a few more people in there too if you don’t mind rubbing shoulders standing up. It’s a very narrow bar and everyone is close together, which made it a very interesting time for us. Everyone was buying drinks for others, which included some of the big bottles of beers in the fridges. I went for two beers but ended up having 6 or so. The whole place is non-smoking and there is also some free WiFi too.

There are 6 taps of beer at Craft Beer Station, with a split between domestic and imports, though the domestic was in the majority when I went to Craft Beer Station. The beers come in three sizes: small (200ml) from ¥900, regular (300ml) from ¥1,150, and pint (560ml) from ¥1,550. It isn’t cheap to drink at Craft Beer Station so be warned; however, thankfully the prices do include tax. It’s a shame that there isn’t any happy hour and there are no beer flights either.

Craft Beer Station Food・クラフトビアステーションフード

The food at Craft Beer Station is mostly meat based, with just a few vegetarian options on the menu. The bar man did offer up some English menus but I was still full up from the food I had eaten at Hug Hop and Standout previously so it was a pass from me. However, the food is freshly prepared in the tiny kitchen at the back of the bar.
