Devilcraft Jiyugaoka The Bottom Line

Devilcraft Jiyugaoka doesn’t veer too far off the road for what has made the Devilcraft chain so successful – a great list of beers paired up with some great pizzas. If you’re in the area, then Devilcraft Jiyugaoka is one of the best choices in the area to sit and relax with a couple of pints – just make sure you get there early though as it’s one of the smallest locations for the branch. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge either. Moreover, all of the menus are in English so those wondering about what to order can relax without the added pressure of translating the Japanese menus. There is also some free Wifi too.

Devilcraft Jiyugaoka The Full Review

After three successful bars and a brewery, it was only a matter of time before Devilcraft began to expand. While looking for places, some people (i.e us) and hope for a location closer to Yokohama as we really could do with some decent pizzas and craft beer in the area. We’ve got plenty of BBQ places in the area and who doesn’t love some pizza. Jiyugaoka, while a hubbub of commuter activity, isn’t really know for its choices of craft beer either, with Alpha Beta Coffee Club being the other choice. Devilcraft Jiyugaoka is unique in the Devilcraft chain in that it is not fully owned by the Devilcraft chain.

Devilcraft Jiyugaoka is located less than two minutes from Jiyugaoka station, located on the Tokyu Toyoko Line (TY-07) and Tokyu Oimachi Line (OM-10). It’s not a difficult place to find but make sure you do checkout the right alleyway using the map below, else you will spend time walking around like we did trying to find it. There’s space for about 30 people inside, with about 20 people situated at the various tables around the bar, and about 10 seats at the counter too. The whole place is non-smoking and there is no table charge either. When we went, there were no table for outside drinking, but let’s hope that in the warmer times of the year, there are some tables or benches as there is some potential space for people to enjoy a beer.

With 15 taps of beer and cider on at Devilcraft Jiyugaoka, there is plenty of choice. Like the other locations, the majority of the taps are dedicated towards the Devilcraft Brewery’s efforts. The beers come in two sizes: 1/2 US pint (260ml) from ¥650, and US pint (473ml) from ¥1,000 with external breweries costing slightly more than their own efforts. All of the prices include tax, so there aren’t any nasty surprises at the end of the day. There is a happy hour, or as Devilcraft calls it, a hoppy hour on weekdays from 17:00 to 19:00, and weekends / national holidays from 14:00 to 17:00 which gets you ¥100 of all beers – not much but enough to help out a little but. When we went though there wasn’t an option for a beer flight or takeaway beers.

All the menus, both for food and drink, are in Japanese and in English, along with the staff being conversant in both languages, including drunkenness too. Without wanting to rewrite what with said before about the pizza: “The food. Well it’s deep dish pizza and it is delicious. No two ways about it but the large is enough to feed a family for a week and then some. The appetisers at DevilCraft Jiyugaoka are good, in particular, the artichoke and spinach dip. The prices do vary, as do the styles of pizza, though if you are coming to DevilCraft Jiyugaoka for the pizza, then go full pizza and get the meatzza deep dish.”
