Midtown BBQ Nagoya The Bottom Line

You might come to Midtown BBQ Nagoya for the BBQ – and let’s be honest it’s a damn good reason to come here – but like the Yokohama branch, they is also a decent selection of craft beer on tap too. While the prices are the norm it seems for Nagoya, there is also the option of getting the beer to takeaway in growlers too. Midtown BBQ Nagoya is completely non-smoking and has no table, and also has a full English menu too – so no excuses for not ordering there. However, vegetarians will find it hard to get a meal here. If you can’t eat all of your food, don’t worry. Midtown BBQ Nagoya also offers up doggy bags of BBQ meat to take away.

Midtown BBQ Nagoya The Full Review

Midtown BBQ Nagoya opened in March 2017 and since then, has become the place to get some American BBQ in Nagoya. After going to the Midtown BBQ Yokohama branch a few months back, I knew that Midtown BBQ Nagoya, the original location for the chain, would have to be on our to-go list while BeerTengoku was in Nagoya. We were also told to reserve the A5 Wagyu brisket but more about that later.

Midtown BBQ Nagoya is located in the Nishiki area of Nagoya, in between Fushimi station and Nagoya station, though the former is easily the closest of the two. There is space inside for 100 people situated at various tables, booths, and also sofas around the bar. During the warmer months of the year, the bay doors are opened up onto the street to allow a nice breeze to come through but besides the BBQ smokers on the small wood deck area, Midtown BBQ Nagoya is completely non-smoking and also has no table charge either.

Midtown BBQ Nagoya has 10 taps of beer on, though three of those are dedicated to some macros. The other 7 are split between both domestic and imports throughout the year. The craft beers come in three different sizes: small (200ml) for ¥900, regular (470ml) for ¥1,100, and jumbo (1000ml) for ¥2,100. There is also the option of cans and bottles too, but the mythical growler option had us – a rare option in Japan. The growlers cost an initial ¥1,000 but then cost ¥1,500 for 1000ml of beer to takeaway. Unfortunately, the beers bought in a growler can not be consumed on site and is limited to a set selection on the menu. However, disappointingly there is no happy hour on at Midtown BBQ Nagoya, nor is there any option for a beer flight either.

Now the food at Midtown BBQ Nagoya is really good – if you like meat. If not, then you’re going to have a bad time. However, if you’re on the fence about BBQ then Midtown BBQ Nagoya will help to convince you that beer and BBQ just are meant to be. Like the Midtown BBQ Yokohama branch, the portions are huge so if need be, you can get a doggy bag to takeaway. The menus are all in English too so there is no problem with ordering and also all the prices include tax too.
