Aoi Brewing and Grill The Bottom Line

If youā€™re wanting to try some of Aoi Brewingā€™s efforts while youā€™re in Nagoya, then pop along to Aoi Brewing and Grill, but otherwise, there are better places in the area to be honest. While Aoi Brewing and Grill is non-smoking and has no table charge, the place felt like it used to be a shop that had hurriedly been transformed into a bar to show off some beers. A shame really as with a bit more decor, Aoi Brewing and Grill could have been so much better. There are plenty of vegetarian choices on the menu though and also enough English for people to order from too but none of the prices include tax. For those that canā€™t bear to be away from the internet, there is also some free Wifi too.

Aoi Brewing and Grill The Full Review

The second day for us in Nagoya started off quite early at Aoi Brewing and Grill, one of a few places in Nagoya that is open early. Aoi Brewing and Grill opened in October 2017 and is the second taproom for Aoi Brewing, a brewery based up the road in Shizuoka.

Aoi Brewing and Grill is located about 10 minutes south of Nagoya station, and is also near Sasashima Raibu ā€“ one of Japanā€™s weirdest named stations. The taproom is in the corner of what could be considered a small shopping area, and the atmosphere definitely feels like it. While Aoi Brewing and Grill is spacious, with seats for about 90 or so people, you canā€™t help but think that this used to be a clothes shop, what with the high glass windows covered halfway in some fake plastic leaves to give some semblance of privacy for diners and drinkers. The whole space is non-smoking and there is also no table charge involved at anytime.

Aoi Brewing and Grill has 10 taps of beer, though two of those are dedicated to macro beers with Heartland and Goose IPA *spit* on the menu. The majority of the beers on tap are from Aoi Brewing, with five of their regular beers appearing and one or two seasonal beers on throughout the year. The beers come in three different sizes: glass (250ml) from Ā„600 to Ā„730, ā€œpintā€ (400ml) from Ā„900 to Ā„1030, and the German mass (1000ml) from Ā„1800 to Ā„2100. Surprisingly there are no happy hour options, nor any beer flights. The beers were poured ok, as usual, could have done with less head but the staff were kind enough to top the beers up when requested.

The food at Aoi Brewing and Grill uses a variety of local ingredients from vegetables to meats, as well as locally sourced rice. There is enough variety on the menu for families too, with vegetarians well catered for. There is also enough English on the menu to order, but there could have been some more descriptions of images to help people. The prices do not include tax so factor that in when you are about to pay the bill.

Beer #7 looks awfully familiar. I am unsure if this pleases or displeases me. X=|} I doubt I will be in Nagoya anytime soon though.
