Songbird Memories of 80’s Seagulls is an 8% Belgian Ale from Brewery Songbird, based in Kisarazu, in Chiba, Japan. It’s their second collaborative beer that they have done with Liquors Hasegawa with their Songbird Noir de Cairdeas in 2018. Like that beer, Songbird Memories of 80’s Seagulls uses peated malt as well as a lot of lavender, chamomile, elder flower, and sugar. At the time of writing, it’s unknown whether Songbird Memories of 80’s Seagulls will be repeated again in the future.

Songbird Memories of 80’s Seagulls Aroma and Taste

if you haven’t read out review on Songbird Dark Lavender, go ahead and do it before carrying on. You’d probably save yourself some time too. Songbird Memories of 80’s Seagulls poured out a hazy light amber colour with a few bubbles of head. The aroma though was all over the place – pot pourri lavender that wouldn’t be out of place in a bathroom, along with a peated pungency that was just overpowering. Nope, back to lavender and some chamomile kick – what the heck is going on with this beer?!

The aroma was nowhere near as bad as the taste though – Songbird Memories of 80’s Seagulls was seriously like sucking on a pot pourri cushion that had been soaked in whiskey for a while. It really wasn’t a nice beer to drink – too much herbal flavour and too much peat going on that just overshadowed everything else in the beer.

Songbird Memories of 80’s Seagulls The Bottom Line

Like most things from the 80s, things look better with rose tinted glasses. Just avoid.
