Y Market Maruhachi IPA Aroma and Taste

Y Market Maruhachi poured out a slightly hazy orange straw colour with a fluffy white head on top. It looked quite “light” for a double IPA – I was expecting something a much darker colour than what came out of the glass. The head didn’t last long either, with some bubbles clinging on to the side of the glass. Y Market Maruhachi has a multitude of aromas on it that, at times, were hard to pin down. A caramel, pine, grapefruit backbone also had hints of peaches, passion fruit, mango, and orange too. Once Y Market Maruhachi had warmed up though, the alcohol, while not too high at 8%, came bashing through the hoppy aromas.

Y Market Maruhachi kicked off with a bitter, tropical flourish, though it did ease off a bit once the initial surprise has gone. The sweetness of it can’t be ignored, even with the lashings of hop flavours going on – think of the nose has been an accurate representation of the body – so peaches, oranges, lemons, mangoes, and grapefruit – as well as a dank piney resinous body to it. Y Market Maruhachi was quite sticky too – the residual aftertaste lingering on far longer than it was supposed to.

Y Market Maruhachi The Bottom Line

Y Market Maruhachi is a solid, and satisfying double IPA. Hunt one down while they last.
