Vertere Milk Stout is a 5% milk stout from Vertere, based in Okutama, in Tokyo, Japan. It’s part of the limited edition lineup and can be found in bottles and on tap across Kanto and some of Japan. It’s brewed using lactose during fermentation but that’s all I could find out about Vertere Milk Stout.

Vertere Milk Stout Aroma and Taste

Vertere Milk Stout poured out a thick charcoal black colour with a finger’s worth of light tan coloured head, that was slow to develop. I really thought Vertere Milk Stout was flat as it came limping out of the bottle, but then suddenly. Boom. The head appeared. It had a distinct milk-like aroma, with the lactose doing its job, as well as subtle chocolate and roasted malt profile to the beer too. Just in the background lied some faint caramel notes as well.

The body had some gloopiness to it (thanks to Joe for the word!) and the surprisingly thick body supported the flavours well. Chocolate, coffee, and milk were all mixed in together and blended nicely to produce a soothing beer. It sounds weird to say that but Vertere Milk Stout was much thicker than other stouts with the same abv. It finished off with a lingering lactose after taste that wasn’t quick to disappear.

Vertere Milk Stout The Bottom Line

Vertere Milk Stout was a surprise – a pleasant one at that too! It’s a shame that the beers aren’t easy to find.
