Ise Kadoya Dry Stout is a 5% dry stout from Ise Kadoya, based in Mie, Japan. It’s part of their limited edition lineup and can be found on tap and in bottles across Japan. It’s brewed alongside the Ise Kadoya Oyster Stout (Come on Joe, get it into English!) but this one contains East Kent Golding hops instead.

Ise Kadoya Dry Stout Aroma and Taste

Ise Kadoya Dry Stout poured out a pitch black colour with a slight tan off-white head on top. The head faded to leave a small ring of brown bubbles around the edge of the glass. Ise Kadoya Dry Stout had a strong chocolate, coffee, earthy aroma to it, with some hints of roasted black malt coming through. The aromas were well-balanced, with special note going to the roasted malt for not being acrid or dominating the aroma.

The body of Ise Kadoya Dry Stout was where it was at. It had a dry bite to it, but the thickness of the body was the highlight. It had a silky smooth texture to it when chilled but when it had warmed up, the smoothness was the same as when it was chilled. A gentle chocolate and creamy body, without any hints of acridness from the black malt, meant that Ise Kadoya Dry Stout was hard to resist drinking too fast. The only thing that was disappointing was a punch of coffee as it was much smoother than I would have liked. Still, not much to complain about really.

It’s a shame that this is a limited edition as Ise Kadoya Dry Stout is really good!
