Ise Kadoya Yuzunoka Ale is a 5% fruit beer from Ise Kadoya, based in Mie, Japan. It’s part of their limited edition lineup and can be found in both bottles and on tap. As the name suggests, Ise Kadoya Yuzunoka Ale is brewed with locally sourced yuzu, or Japanese citron, with both the flesh and skin being used in the secondary fermentation stage.

Ise Kadoya Yuzunoka Ale Aroma and Taste

Ise Kadoya Yuzunoka Ale poured out a dark amber copper colour with a large frothy white head on top that lingered for quite a while. There was a distinct yuzu aroma coming off of the beer, along with a slight salty aroma tainted with a faint caramel smell.

The body itself was most peculiar – not quite a pale ale as suggested by Ise Kadoya but more gose-like. The yuzu was very sharp, with an initial sour kick, which was to be expected, followed by the fleshy yuzu flavour coming through. However, there was a salty sourness to it that left my lips tingling for some time after drinking. Ise Kadoya Yuzunoka Ale didn’t have much of a beer flavour to it though, with the malts only producing a very light biscuit flavour to it.

Ise Kadoya Yuzunoka Ale The Bottom Line

Ise Kadoya Yuzunoka Ale is a bit too heavy handed on the yuzu for it to be subtle and will make your face pucker up.
