Coedo Regista IPA is 6% American IPA from Coedo, based in Kawagoe, Saitama. It’s part of their draft only range (why oh why can’t they expand on their bottled range already) and can be found across Japan. First released at the Autumn Keyaki Beer Festival in 2017, Coedo Regista IPA is brewed with Simcoe, Mosaic, and Motueka hops though when and how much is unknown at the time of writing.

Beautiful beer that is worth having over and over.

Coedo Regista IPA Aroma and Taste

Coedo Regista IPA came up a pale golden straw colour with a fluffy white head on top – simple but effective really. Coedo’s range of bottled beers aren’t known for being groundbreaking – simple beers without flair – yet how can they have made something like Coedo Regista IPA is beyond me. Rich aromas of orange, grapefruit, and lemon came bursting through that reminded me of tropical fruit juice drinks. I’m loathed to use the word “juicy” for a beer but when the bar manager pointed out that this was a juicy beer, I had to agree with him.

The dryness of Coedo Regista IPA was offset with the tropical fruits that followed through in the body – oranges, grapefruits, lemon, pineapple – that paired off wonderfully with the bitterness from the hops. I could imagine drinking pint after pint of Coedo Regista IPA on a hot summer’s day as it was also thirst quenching but never cloying. The bitterness and hops in the aftertaste faded fast which is the only downpoint really to Coedo Regista IPA – well if you exclude the point about this being a possible limited release.

Coedo Regista IPA The Bottom Line

Coedo may be late in catching up with the juicy brigade of beers, but they’ve done brilliantly with Coedo Regista IPA. Let’s hope it sticks around for longer and makes it into bottles or cans.
