Craft Beer Tap x Tap in Kanda, Tokyo

Craft Beer Tap x Tap The Bottom Line

Craft Beer Tap x Tap is good little find in the back streets of Kanda, though with the recent opening of Craft Beer Market Kanda encroaching in on its area, it’s going to be tough to see how it succeeds as it is no longer the cheapest craft beer bar in the area. However, the atmosphere is much better and the beer list is more adventurous, with a focus on Kansai and further afield Japan craft beer breweries towards Hiroshima. There is no table charge though the prices do not include tax at all, so factor that into the price later. I didn’t notice anyone smoking on the day I went there nor did I see any ashtrays either. The staff were friendly enough to offer an English menu as well, for those needing one.

Finally here!

Craft Beer Tap x Tap The Full Review

Craft Beer Tap x Tap Kanda opened July 2016 and we’ve been looking for a reason to get over that side of Tokyo for a while, and besides DevilCraft Kanda, we’ve not had much of a reason to keep going back. The last couple of times I’ve tried to get to Tap x Tap, I’ve either missed the lunch service or suddenly found out that the bar is closed over a private message on Facebook – great they do that but slightly frustrating.

Craft Beer Tap x Tap is located less than two minutes from Kanda station’s east exit – heck just walk straight out of the exit and the bar is in front of you, though do avoid the throngs of business people doing their best impressions of zombies as they walk to the station at the end of the working day. There is space for a couple of people to have a couple of beers outside but the majority of the seating is inside around groups of four seated at tables, with 5 or 6 seats around the bar counter. There didn’t appear to be anyone smoking when I went, nor we were offered any ashtrays, so going to assume that Craft Beer Tap x Tap is non-smoking (if you know otherwise, do leave a comment!), but the best news is that there was no table charge.

There are twenty taps of craft beer at Tap x Tap, with a heavy leaning towards the Kansai and Chugoku regions of Japan, and a few imports from mainly Europe. Beers come in two sizes: small (250ml) at ¥500 and regular (400ml) at ¥800; however, prices do not include tax, so don’t forget to add that on. Even so, the prices are towards the cheaper end of Tokyo prices and are some of the cheapest in the area. There is also a beer flight, which gets you 4 x 150ml glasses of any beer on the menu for ¥1,200. They will also do you a walking beer, you know, if you get thirsty walking between here and the station. The pours at Tap x Tap were ok – they did need topping up, and the staff were polite enough to do that, so make sure you don’t get served up too much frothy head on your beer.

The food at Craft Beer Tap x Tap is heavily geared towards meat – with the signature karaage being a big seller. And not surprising either considering its size. A plate of 5 pickles, yes, go ahead and count them in the picture, cost ¥500. 3 huge slabs of karaage set me back only ¥380, so if you’re a vegetarian, you’re gonna have a bad time. The prices for food, like drinks, didn’t include tax. And for those readers that though we were going to have chips – sorry to have let you down!

That it took so long for you to wind up here is understandable.
As for myself, whom I hold to a higher standard {as amazing as this may seem}, this is yet another embarassment. I have shopped, and done well, at this SELL outlet of a national on-premise video rental operation, which is a mere 350 meters from TAP x TAP. But I never wound up at TAP x TAP, and there were occasions when I instead queued up for Devil Craft Kanda, because I did not know about TAP x TAP.
The next time any of you want to shop in Kanda, please contact me. I would be willing to bet I’ll unearth a DVD you will enjoy. X=)}
