Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda The Bottom Line

Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda doesn’t differ at all from the rest of the Yona Yona range of bars, so you know what you are expecting if you’ve been to any one of them. All prices include tax and there isn’t a table charge. The only gripe I have about the places is paying ~¥950 for beers that you can get for cheaper in convenience stores. Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda is family friendly and even offer smaller size portions for kids if you wish to take your family along for the ride.

Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda Inside

Same as all the other branches.

Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda The Full Review

Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda is the second establishment of the Yona Yona Yona range, after the Akasuka-Mitsuke branch, and as such, follows the same identical idea as that. This branch opened in March 2015, just before the Omotesando branch opened in the following October. Yona Yona Beer Works follows the tried and tested formula of that bar and grill, but on a smaller scale. It’s located in the Kanda area of Tokyo, about 5 minutes from both the underground and JR lines, in what is fast becoming the busiest place for craft beer on the eastern side of Tokyo.

Inside Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda is pretty much no different to the other branches, with the same amount of wood being used to decorate the place, but at least it isn’t MDF or chipboard. There is a small standing area outside the front door if you want to watch the world go by, and in the warmer months, the bay windows do open up to allow some breeze to come in. There is plenty of space inside, with tables at the front and back of the bar, and small wall counter-like seating as you pass through the bar. The whole place is non-smoking, including the small drinking area outside, and there is no table charge either. Some English is spoken and present on the menu too.

The tap list at Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda is the same as the other locations with only Yo-Ho Brewing’s beers on tap, so don’t expect to find anything radically new or different besides a couple of Karuizawa Kogen seasonals that may appear from time to time. If you haven’t tried any of the Yo-Ho Brewing range, then either you have escaped their reach from Lawson’s and other stores, such as Seiyu, as the ubiquitous Yona Yona Ale can be found pretty easily now. Beers come in three different sizes: small (¥450 ~ ¥530), medium (¥680 ~ ¥780) and pint (¥900 ~ ¥980) along with a three-beer tasting set of three small beers for ¥1,280 though you can’t choose the limited edition beers or the barley wine in that. There is no happy hour though so don’t expect cheap post work drinks.

The food at Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda didn’t seem to differ that much from the other locations, with a distinct leaning towards meat and grilled based dishes, but there are a couple of vegetarian options as well. The gyoza are very nice, with tons of coriander and chilli oil, and the coriander spinach salad contains fruit but also nuts, so be warned.
