Takikawa Sorachi Pilsner is a 5% pilsner style beer from Takikawa Craft Beer Kobo, based in Takikawa, Hokkaido. It’s part of their all-year round range of draft beer, though at the time of writing, there are no plans for it be released in bottles. It’s brewed using 100% malt, so it’s classified as a beer in Japan, and is hopped with Sorachi Ace hops for both bittering and aroma.

Crystal clear – though lacking in flavour.

Takikawa Sorachi Pilsner Aroma and Taste

Sorachi Ace hop is not a popular brand of hops in brewing it seems, what with the possible dill aroma and flavour emanating off of the beer – not a flavour or aroma you really want in your beer. Thankfully, Takikawa Sorachi Pilsner didn’t have any of those dill aromas, though to be honest, it didn’t have much of a hop aroma coming off of it besides the merest of citrus hints. The malts seemed to the star of the show though with a biscuity wheatiness coming through strongly.

Biscuit and wheat also seemed to be the two big flavours in the body too with the faintest hint of lemon coming through. In fact, I could have sworn that my glass of Takikawa Sorachi Pilsner was Kirin Heartland instead. The malts lingered through the body, right through into the aftertaste before leaving a subtle sweetness on the palate.

Takikawa Sorachi Pilsner The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a pilsner with punch, then Takikawa Sorachi Pilsner is not the beer you’re looking for. In fact, it’s not a beer really worth looking for at all.
