Harvestmoon Pale Ale is a 5% English style pale ale from Harvestmoon, based in Chiba. It is part of their all year round range and can be found in both bottles and on tap. Harvestmoon use malt and hop that have been sourced from England. They have also used Burtonised water by adding minerals and salts to the water during brewing to imitate the style of water found in Burton, UK. Harvestmoon Pale Ale has also won a couple of awards, with the latest coming in 2011 at the International Beer Competition.

Harvestmoon Pale Ale

Is this really an English pale ale?

Harvestmoon Pale Ale Aroma and Taste

Harvestmoon Pale Ale poured out a light golden colour with a reasonable amount of fluffy white head on top, though that was more than likely due to the IPA glass being used for this beer rather than the beer itself. The head had a fair amount of lacing to it and clung to the side of the glass as the beer went down. Aroma wise, Harvestmoon Pale Ale smelt more of an American pale ale with a large waft of citrus fruits coming over, such as lemon and a small amount of grapefruit too. There was a faint hint of caramel to the beer from the malts but not as much as expected for an English pale ale.

The body was sweeter than the aroma led on to believe, with the malts producing a light caramel sweetness that was enough but not too much to be cloying. The hops produced a slight bitterness that was paired up with a lemon flavour again. In the aftertaste, Harvestmoon Pale Ale resembled more of an English pale ale than at any other stage with the malts leaving a caramel nuttiness-like flavour.

Harvestmoon Pale Ale One Line Review

Harvestmoon Pale Ale is a nice beer but it seems to be stuck between an American IPA and an English IPA and doesn’t do either very well.
