Atsugi Camden IPA is a 5% session IPA brewed by Atsugi Beer, based in Atsugi, Kanagawa. It’s an additional beer to their range of contract beers as this is brewed for the Beer Pub Camden range of bars in Tokyo. It was first brewed as part of the 5th anniversary celebrations for the bar but can be found on tap both at Beer Pub Camden and at Lambic in Atsugi. It’s brewed using five American hops, Simcoe, Amarillo, Cascade, Chinook, and Centennial.

Atsugi Camden IPA Aroma and Taste

Atsugi Camden IPA poured out a light golden colour with a decent amount of frothy clean white head on top that clung to the side of the glass as the beer went down. The first thing you notice about the aroma is the myriad of aromas going on – strong citrus aromas of lemon and orange, along with some piney resin aroma, and a caramel sweetness that somehow manages to punch through everything else. There was a lot going and that was before the aroma of bitterness came through too.

The body was much lighter than I expected from the nose and brought a crisp bite both from the hops and the chilled beer. At 5%, the alcohol wasn’t even close to being recognised among the citrus and caramel notes and left it very drinkable and dry. The aftertaste was slightly bitter and also left a lemony aftertaste too on the palate.

Atsugi Camden IPA One Line Review

Atsugi Camden IPA is a very drinkable and pleasant session IPA, almost like a lite-Hopslave.
