Yorocco Zesty Saison is a 4.5% saison from Yorocco Beer, based in Zushi, Kanagawa. It’s part of their draft range and is brewed using amanatsu or natsumikan, which looks something like a cross between a grapefruit and an orange. While the fruit is most commonly grown in Yamanashi, it can be seen across Japan, and it seems Yorocco Beer have located a few trees in the local area. Yorocco Zesty Saison is only available on draft at the time of writing.

Yorocco Zesty Saison Aroma and Taste

First apologies for the photo – it should have been of just the Yorocco Zesty Saison though I wanted to show off the food as well at Beach Muffin. The beer itself was as cloudy as the photo suggests and was a deep golden orange colour. The haziness was caused by the Belgian yeast used in the beer according to the bar man. It had a large orange-like aroma to it, along with some Belgian saison yeast notes to it as well. The aromas were gentle on the nose, though most importantly, did not have any chemically aromas to it.

The flavours to Yorocco Zesty Saison were tropic like, with some hints of oranges, grapefruit, along with a fleshy-like texture to it. It had some strong saison-like qualities to it, with the yeast bringing a dryness to it that has become Yorocco Beer’s trademark finish it seems. It finished off as it started with a zesty citrus fruit quality to it before leaving a slight sourness to it.

Yorocco Zesty Saison One Line Review

If fruit juice were beer, then Yorocco Zesty Saison would be a great example of it.
