Shonan Beer Session IPA French Saison Aroma and Taste

Session IPAs are becoming a trend in Japan now though the alcohol levels are slightly more attuned to what a session beer is and with Shonan Beer Session IPA French Saison, Kumazawa Shuzo have hit the sweet spot. At 4.5%, it’s a beer that you can easily drink a few off without suffering too much from the alcohol levels. It came up a light golden colour with a clean frothy white head on top that dissipated quickly into the beer. There was a definite IPA aroma to it, with some clean citrus aromas coming through, though the yeasty funk came barging through all of that.

The body was a perplexing issue through and through – it had the typical IPA bitter bite to it, but it was incredibly dry due to the saison yeast influence as well. The IPA part was lemony with a slight sweetness to it but the saison influence was clear with a subtle yeasty twang and some spiciness as well. The jumping between the styles in one beer was definitely interesting as when it moves to the aftertaste, it was definitely a bitter yeast twang that lingered on the palate.

Shonan Beer Session IPA French Saison One Line Review

Shonan Beer Session IPA French Saison is an interestingly layered beer that is definitely worth trying though its blink-and-miss it availability may make that hard.
