Baird Brewer’s Nightmare Rye IPA is a seasonal beer from Baird Beer, usually released to coincide with the autumn harvest at the beginning of September. Baird Brewer’s Nightmare Rye IPA is brewed with an unusually high amount of rye in the mash, something that Chris Poel, head brewer, found hard to work with initially as mentioned in the interview here.

It maybe a nightmare to make, but it's a dream to drink.

Spicy and peppery. Great with pizza. Review here: https://beertengoku.com/2015/01/baird-brewers-nightmare-rye-ipa-baird-beer/

Baird Brewer’s Nightmare Rye IPA Aroma and Taste

Baird Brewer’s Nightmare Rye IPA poured out a deep hazy bronze colour with a two-finger plump fluffy head to boot. The head faded away but stuck to the sides of the glass as it ebbed and waned. Baird Brewer’s Nightmare Rye IPA had a strong aroma of spicy rye, no surprises there, which was laced with some caramel tones from the malt. Those notes segued into a citrus hoppiness, something that I had forgotten about. Even though it’s an IPA.

Without stating the obvious, something that I tend to do according to Joe, Baird Brewer’s Nightmare Rye IPA is more doughy than I imagined, along the lines of a decent German rye bread with a dash of sour dough. The atypical hoppy taste is present in the beer but this beer is all about the rye notes. Baird Brewer’s Nightmare Rye IPA is mildly carbonated but it’s difficult to see any life with the hazy bronze colour masquerading the bubbles. The beer finishes off on the sweet side on the hoppy scale.

Baird Brewer’s Nightmare Rye IPA One Line Review

Baird Brewer’s Nightmare Rye IPA is a good beer to try to find; spicy notes with a dash of citrus hops.
